Following the completion of the Liverpool Victoria Asset Management project, British Council for Offices held a technical tour of the Grade II listed building. The event was supported by Skansen alongside LVAM, Chapman Bathurst and Pringle Brandon and with 67 attendees, the tour was extremely well attended. Members were invited to visit the first Gold Ska Rated Category A office refurbishment in the UK and to hear from key members of the team. The underlying message of the evening was that the pursuit of environmental excellence need not compromise building quality or performance. Skansen Director, James Pack, has been nominated in the current Election for the BCO Board of Management. James, who has been an individual member of the BCO for 6 years, has become increasingly well known through the industry for his championing of environmental good practice, specifically for his work in the development of the Ska Rating. Even though Skansen officially assigned Ska Rating to the RICS in 2009, James continues to work with RICS in the ongoing development of Ska, and was influential in Ska’s inclusion within the new BCO Fit Out Guide. He was also a recent speaker and panellist at the recent BCO Conference where Ska vs LEED vs BREEAM was debated. A debate he thinks he won! James believes he has demonstrated the qualities required within the BCO Board of Management. If you are a member of the BCO he would be grateful for your support and Vote! |

RICS has recently launched development of Ska Retail. Ska Retail will look at delivering the same principles to shops and restaurants as it does to office fit out and refurbishment, but will naturally be more biased towards the activities specific to retail fit out. |

Ska Rating is to be included in the forthcoming BCO Guide to Fit Out. The Guide, which was launched at the recent Conference in Geneva, reflects the changes in how offices are being occupied since the last guide was published almost a decade ago. With increased emphasis on sustainability, Ska Rating is included alongside other assessment methods such BREEAM and LEED.
