Skansen wins CoreNet Global UK's Sustainability Award - February 2008

CoreNet Global UK 2008Skansen wins CoreNet Global UK's 2008 prestigious Land Securities Trillium Sustainability Award for their work with the RICS in developing the Ska Rating.

In 2005 Skansen implemented a Research & Development programme in search of practical measures to benchmark good practice. It became quickly evident that any real benefits would have to be measured and codified in order to remove the ambiguity prevalent in the fitting out and refurbishment industry. Thus Skansen collaborated with the RICS and Faber Maunsell to develop an environmental benchmarking tool for the fitting out industry which would enable clients and their advisers to achieve an environmental rating for their projects. This became known as the Ska Rating. In London in 2008 the tool received industry recognition when Skansen was awarded the ‘Land Securities Trillium Sustainability Award’ at CoreNet Global UK’s annual Awards & Dinner.

The judges were impressed by Skansen’s commitment to develop a web based environmental assessment tool so that the client decision making process for fit out projects can be as much influenced by Environmental factors as the traditional Design, Cost and Programme factors. Undertaking extensive research on its own and on other clients’ projects, Skansen, in conjunction with the RICS and Faber Maunsell, developed a tool which is freely available to everybody in the real estate industry. The judges believe that the Ska Rating Tool, together with the training of RICS accredited assessors who can issue RICS Certificates for completed projects, will make a significant contribution to the sustainability agenda within the UK real estate industry.
