Innovation & Research As founder of the RICS Ska Rating, Skansen leads the fit out and refurbishment industry in championing environmental good practice.
Ska Rating was initially conceived as the result of an ‘in-house’ research programme at Skansen into the environmental impact of fit out and refurbishment. Development continued under Skansen leadership up until Ska Rating was assigned to the RICS in 2009, shortly after which RICS formally launched Ska to the industry. The tool is rapidly becoming established as the industry standard for measuring environmental good practice on fit out and refurbishment projects. Unlike other assessment methods, Ska rated projects are only scored against those good practice measures relevant within scope of the project that can be influenced by the project team. This makes the tool far more accurate, cost effective and relevant compared to BREEAM and LEED, whilst producing the same end results. With a team of in house RICS Accredited Ska Rating Assessors, Skansen can provide expert guidance on environmental good practice during the pre-construction and construction phases of projects. Our skill set however is not just limited to Ska. Our teams also deliver BREEAM and LEED assessed projects, supporting all good practice regardless of the label. Full details of the Ska Rating can be found at either www.ska-rating.com or www.rics.org Best Practice The 104 good practice measures identified within the Ska Rating cover every aspect or scope of work for a typical fitting out project. Not only do they form the backbone of the Ska Rating scoring systems, representing current Best Practice, but they are also enshrined within Skansen company procedures. Many are carried out as a matter of course on all Skansen projects, and we have the expertise to advise and work with our client and their adviserson many of the following environmental issues: Energy & CO2Waste Water Materials Pollution Wellbeing Transport At the outset of every project Skansen can advise the client and the professional team of all the environmental aspects of the project and how to minimise its environmental impact, in order that an accredited RICS Ska Rating can be obtained. WRAP – Halving Waste to landfill. Skansen has committed to halving all waste to landfill by 2012. |
