Skansen Charity Appeal for Meru, Kenya

Skansen are supporting the Kenyan organisation IPI www.ipeacei.org who have initiated a programme to build local community homes, which allow orphaned children to stay in their local communities rather than be sent away from their friends and families. The community homes will be built by local builders, on land donated by the community. The home will be run by volunteers, and provide a safe and stable environment for orphaned children.

The first of these homes is part-way through construction in Meru, due to open early September 2007. Once completed it will house 100 children over 3 floors, as well as provide a dispensary for the local community. However, due to a lack of funds, the project ground to a halt.

Skansen has undertaken to raise the £40,000 required to complete the construction of the home. As a result of our fundraising activities, construction activities are back on track and members of our team will be present for the final phases and opening ceremony in September 2007.
